Maassluis Het Balkon

The new housing estate Het Balkon is located directly on the Nieuwe Waterweg in Maassluis and is urbanistically linked to the river.Waco was commissioned to produce the iconic ship’s bow that serves as a vantage point and landmark of the new district.
High-quality moulding technology and smart manufacturing resulted in a seamless bow, and the adjacent staircase could also be manufactured as one whole.Each element was uniquely customised and required its own mould. The concrete elements are manufactured in self-compacting concrete in a standard light grey concrete colour. All elements are also treated with an anti-graffiti coating. This resulted in perfectly interlocking elements that formed the bow.
